About POGAR - Collaborating Institutions

POGAR conducts national and regional activities with the following collaborating institutions:

Arab National and Regional

* Arab Center for Independence of the Judiciary and the Legal Profession (ACIJLP)
ACIJLP is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the independence of the judiciary and legal profession in the region. The organization is located in Cairo, Egypt.

* Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (Arab-IPU)
Arab-UPI, based in Damascus, Syria, is the organization of Arab Parliaments and includes 22 Arab countries.

* Arab Lawyers Union (ALU) ALU, based in Cairo, Egypt, includes twenty-four national bar associations of Arab countries and its membership contains more than four hundred thousand Arab lawyers based in 21 Arab countries.

* The Center for Research and Training on Development (CRTD)
CRTD is a regional Non-Governmental Organization that is based in Beirut. CRTD works in Lebanon and the Arab world, mostly in Yemen, Egypt, Syria, Morocco, Tunisia, and Algeria, to advance the issues of Gender equality. CRTD is financially supported by POGAR to undertake part of its activities under the gender/citizenship initiative.

* The Lebanese Center for Policy Studies (LCPS)
LCPS is an independent, non-profit research institute based in Beirut. It is concerned with issues of political, social, and economic development. LCPS publishes studies and organizes conferences that analyze and aim to improve public policy. It also publishes extensive materials online to increase public awareness of critical policy issues.

* MAROC 2020
Maroc2020 is a non-governmental forum to debate the future of civil society in Morocco.

* National Center for Judicial Studies
Ministry of Justice, Egypt.

* NGO service center in Cairo
The NGO Service Center, a USAID Governance and Participation activity, focuses on helping civil society organizations in Egypt become full partners in the development process.

* Public Administration Research and Consultation Center (PARC)
PARC is an academic research unit of the Faculty of Economics and Political Science (FEPS) of Cairo University. PARC conducts studies and research in the field of public policy analysis, including re-structuring and re-engineering, and presenting overall support in solving managerial problems. PARC has also training programs for researchers and experts working in the fields of public and local administration.

* Union of Arab Banks (UAB)
UAB promotes Arab common economic practices in the process of building and developing banking cooperation for the benefit of economic, financial, and banking development in the Arab world.

AMIDEAST is a private, nonprofit organization working to strengthen mutual understanding and cooperation between Americans and the people of the Middle East and North Africa.

* The Deutsche Gesellschaft f�r Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ)
The Deutsche Gesellschaft f�r Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ) GmbH is a government-owned corporation for international cooperation with worldwide operations. GTZ is a co-funder of a documentary film being prepared under the Gender/Citizenship initiative.

* The International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA)
IDEA was established to promote sustainable democracy worldwide. IDEA is mandated to engage in a wide variety of activities designed to advance democracy and to improve the quality of democratic governance, nationally and internationally.

* The International Foundation for Election Systems (IFES)
IFES provides professional advice and technical assistance in promoting democracy and serves as an information clearinghouse on elections, rule of law, governance, and civil society.

* The National Center for State Courts (NCSC)
NCSC is an independent, nonprofit organization dedicated to the improvement of justice. It is active in the United States and internationally.

* Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD)
The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development groups countries and NGO's sharing a commitment to democratic government and the market economy. OECD deals with economic and social issues and is actively involved with co-operation with developing countries.

* Parliamentary Center of Canada
The Parliamentary Center of Canada is an independent non-profit organization with a mandate to support the House of Commons and the Senate of Canada in the fields of international relations and trade. The Center has undertaken parliamentary development programs in Russia, South East Asia, Africa and the Middle East.

* The United Nations Department for Economic and Social Affairs, Division for Public Economics and Public Administration (DESA/DPEPA)
DESA/DPEPA assists Member States in ensuring that their governance systems, administrative and financial institutions, human resources and policy development processes function in an effective and participatory manner by fostering dialogue, promoting and sharing information and knowledge and providing technical and advisory service.

* The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA)
ESCWA promotes economic and social development through regional and sub-regional cooperation and integration and serves as the main general economic and social development forum within the United Nations system for the ESCWA region.

* The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS)
UNOPS is an arm of the United Nations that provides project-management services in every field where the UN has a mandate. UNOPS manages development projects or provides specialized services, as needed. These services include selecting and hiring project personnel, procuring goods, organizing training, managing financial resources and administering loans.
