Meeting on the Judicial System in Iraq - Reality and Prospects
Amman - Jordan, October 2 - 4, 2004.
Organized by: United Nations Development Programme - Programme on Governance in the Arab Region (UNDP-POGAR).
Throughout history Iraq has been distinguished with its authentic jurisprudence and its effective judicial system. However, this country is going through a process of state building. Along with other state actors, the judiciary has a crucial role to play in enhancing economic growth, providing social stability and security, and protecting legal rights. In this context, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), through its Regional Programme on Governance in the Arab Region (POGAR), has recently launched a project on "The Challenges of Modernization and Development of the Legal and Judicial Systems in Iraq".
