The workshop aimed at assessing the overall achievements and outputs of the project “Building Capacities of Parliamentary Institutions and Promotion of Citizens’ Participation in the Arab Countries and Middle East”, presenting the final national study results and identifying the way forward. It also addressed the role of the media in covering parliamentary activities.

The seven-day study tour brought together MPs and experts from Lebanon, Iraq, Jordan and Italy. It allowed the exchange of experience among MPs and parliamentary experts and officials at the Italian Parliament, and consisted of workshops at the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies and visits to Italian constituencies and relevant institutions.

The seminar forms part of the project “Building Capacities of Parliamentary Institutions and Promotion of Citizen’s Participation in the Arab countries and Middle East” that aims at strengthening the capacities of the parliaments of Lebanon, Iraq and Jordan.
Twelve members of parliament (MPs) from each of Lebanon and Iraq and six MPs from Jordan participated in the seminar on behalf of their parliaments in addition to experts, researchers, civil society representatives and other interested sides from the region and from Italy.
Preliminary results of national studies commissioned to researchers in each of the participating countries on the experiences of Iraq, Jordan and Lebanon were presented during the seminar.
