This report describes the social context in which “honor” crimes take place, including the second-class status accorded to girls and women in law and custom. It also presents four case studies of women under threat from male family members, demonstrating the destructive, paralyzing effect of Jordan’s continued weak responses to “honor” crimes on women’s lives then concludes with recommendations.

The Case of Iraqi forced migrants is created not only by the socio-political conditions at home, but also by the type of reception they receive in neighboring states in their region of origin. Through the transnational migration dynamics of the Iraqis, and through the accompanying architecture of the smuggling networks, Jordan is now connected to a variety of Western countries, other regional countries such as Iran or Turkey, and to other stops on the route in Central America or South Eastern Asia.

This paper attempts to: 1) Review the status of children in Greater Amman covering areas such as health, educational and socio-economic characteristics. 2) Review the status of disadvantaged children and to identify vulnerabilities and risk factors affecting them. Disadvantaged have been grouped under the following categories: working children, street children, children deprived of family care (orphans), children with disabilities, refugees, and children affected by violence. 3) Assess the capacity of selected institutions addressing children's issues in Greater Amman. 4) Propose a phased capacity building program for the institution based on the finding of the assessment.

The report also identifies areas if legal concern relevant to the legal status of Jordanian women. The report also examines the status of women in Jordan in other areas including education, health, economic empowerment and the family. The report recognizes that considerable achievements have been made in terms of improvements in women’s status, but nevertheless highlights areas of particular concern in respect of women’s health and economic stats.
