The center was established in December 1999, based upon the common commitment of the American Bar Association and the United Nations Development Programme to support and promote good governance and the rule of law around the world. The mission is to provide a legal resource capability to serve UNDP global governance programs and projects supporting legal reform and democratic institution building.
